I had a neighbor bring me here and thought we were going to be on a Happy Hour time, but we got in on the lunch prices. I love egg foo young and don't often find it offered. Generous amount of food and could take some home for lunch the next day. And. yes, there was the beer for happy hour,

We were looking for somewhere to order lunch to take home and decided to drive down El Cajon Blvd. On the north side close to 30th was New Maxim's Palace. What a great discovery! I had Number 3-D which was seafood and vegetables. My son had Kung Pao with assorted meats. My dish was not salty, and had large perfectly cooked shrimp, delicate fish, and surinami. The vegetables were all fresh and cooked perfectly including the giant mushrooms. There was enough for two meals. My son's dish had distinctive kung pao flavor but was not heavy or overly salty. We also had a side order of egg roll. We'll be back! I am looking forward to when dine-in returns to try some of the dinner entries.

Wanted to try a local Chinese restaurant and stopped in here. Glad we did. The food was very good and served hot, the service was excellent. We tried the Maxim's special clay pot which was very good. It was filled with large shrimp, sliced beef, sliced beef, and veggies. The broth was bubbling and tasty. We also tried the black mushroom chicken. This was a mistake on our part as this black mushroom chicken tasted like the clay pot chicken. It was still very tasty, but our dinner lacked variety. The meal came with a complimentary large bowl of steaming hot rice.Neither one of us like green bell pepper, so we picked them out of the clay pot. Afterwards, while clearing our table, our server noticed that we did and told us that next time to just tell them to leave it out. Nice.The menu is quite extensive. Be sure and look on both sides of the menu for all the choices. We're looking forward to returning to sample more of their dishes.The restaurant is tucked in a corner of a strip mall which is rather undistinguished and behind a stand-alone Thai food restaurant that fronts El Cajon Blvd, so don't be put off by its location.Tip: be sure and tell the server no MSG. It seemed strange to us that they would still use MSG in this day and age (and here in California); but the menu has a reminder to ask for no MSG (or no/low salt). Again, a nice touch.Tip: they also do a brisk take-out business.
